James, oldest son of John WEBB, married Margaret Headrick in Tambaroora in 1871 at the home of Margaret's parents William and Henrietta. Two of Margaret's siblings are in the cemetery at Tambaroora. William was a miner. By 1881 James and Margaret and possibly the older Headricks are in Forbes. James moved with his family to Millthorpe in the late 1890s. James worked on building new classrooms at Millthorpe school. He died suddenly in 1904, aged 53. He was a skilled tradesman.
A newspaper report says: "Those who take an interest in masonry should pay a visit to the site of the new public school building. There are to be seen square blocks of the local granite which former quarrymen could only supply in rough uneven fragments. Mr Webb, who is responsible for demonstrating the great possibilities of the locally raised stone, is evidently a genius in this particular line. If he were on the spot building difficulties would speedily disappear, as we would be no longer dependent on the success attending the burning of a kiln of bricks. Mr Webb's work must be seen to be credited". Profile information courtesy of James Great Granddaughter, Lyndall Elliott |

John came to Queensland with his wife and young family on the Bayswater in 1864. By the end of 1866, he was in Sydney and presumably had travelled west to the goldfields. He had a publican's licence for an inn, aptly named The Bricklayer's Arms near Hartley but became insolvent in 1869. There's another record of insolvency in 1872 when the "Cause of insolvency : Pressure of creditors, and in consequence of money in the hands of trustees of Protestant Hall, Tambaroora, being attached under an order of the Supreme Court." By 1876 he's the contractor for the Roman Catholic Chapel at Mudgee but there's some legal action. The church is not happy with his progress and he takes them to court for breech of contact. The court finds in the church's favour and John loses an appeal. By 1877 he's insolvent again. John's now in Sydney and Parramatta. He's the contractor for St Andrews Anglican Church at Seven Hills. He dies in 1909 aged 81.
